I believe the most memorable Christmas is around 1957 or possibly 1958. I received this really neat toy piano from Santa Clause along with the dolls and doll clothes. I had this little cousin that wasn't really interested in the rocking horse that Santa pulled out of the his sack of toys. As my memo... MORE

We have antique sleigh bells that have been in the family a long time. When my children were small, I would run around the outside of the house, very close to the walls. and ring the bells after the kids went to bed. One year, I forgot that I had planted a new bush at the front corner of the house a... MORE

I am a quilter from G.P, TX but Quitman, TX is my second home. It is a place to gather with friends several times a year to share laughs and tears with. Quitman is the best small town I know of whether it's Christmas or any other time of the year.

Sharon from Quitman,  TX  USA says:See others from this town12-29-2010

At Christmas dinner I have everyone who attends sign the tablecloth that I made special for this year and then someone is already sitting at a chair, or has a glass or plate or something I already marked and gets to take the tablecloth home with them....I just think it is an extra added little way o... Dad, Mom, Sis and I would scrunch into the cab of the old truck and go on a long ride on the back country roads in search of the perfect Christmas tree to cut!

Sue from Quitman,  TX  USA says:See others from this town12-27-2010

When I was 9 or 10 years old, my grandmothers got together to plan a Christmas surprise for the whole family. Everyone had either a red flannel nightgown (my grandmothers, aunt, mom, sister, and I) or a red flannel nightshirt (my dad and my grandfather). Each one was decorated a bit differently--min... As a child growing up we went to our Grandmother Leopolds for holidays. We went at Christmas and some of our aunts went shopping for the different age groups. We all received the same gift. It was always cool. I still have some of those gifts even thought it was over 40 years ago. We did the same ... MORE

Helen from Fredericksburg,  TX  USA says:See others from this town12-27-2010

I have lived in Fredericksburg TX all of my life. It's an historical german settlement that has been preserved and steeped in traditions. Also known as the town of steeples. The only town I know of with a mile long main street - four lanes for traffic and still enough room for angle parking. The Mar... MORE

The best Christmases were those when my grandparents left their farm and came into town to spend the night at my house. They did not come for an overnight stay any other time. To wake up EARLY and have Christmas together was a great time!

Sharon from Quitman,  TX  USA says:See others from this town12-26-2010

Last Christmas was the first White Cristmas I had ever experienced in my entire life. The entire family had gathered at our little home in Quitman and we had so much fun playing in the snow and watching was fun too. It was a time like never before and probably will never happen again.

Virginia from Quitman,  TX  USA says:See others from this town12-26-2010

One of my favorite memories is the year that the kids were declared old enough to help decorate the tree. We were in the age range of a precocious 4 to 7 years old. As grandpa was stringing out the lights and we were checking them to make sure each bulb worked, we hatched a plot. Why decorate a tree... MORE

Since my parents have retired to Kerrville, TX four years ago we try to spend as much time in the Texas Hill Country as possible. Every visit is certain to include a dozen wild deer roaming the neighborhood and stopping by their home to nibble on flowers and bushes in the front yard. What fun to wat... MORE

I love the evidence of the true meaning of Christmas in our small town. The caring and sharing of all the organizations, citizens and churches is truly a blessing. This Christmas my children went to their In-laws instead of coming to our house and our neighbors made the most delicious dinner and company to keep us busy and not thinking about being without our children. I am very thankful to have such wonderful neighbors.
